Q. How old do I need to be to tan?
You must be 18 or over to use a tanning bed. Anyone under 18 can get a Spray Tan in one of premium tanning booths; VersaPro, VersaSpa or Norvell Autorevolution.
Q. Why can’t I tan within 24 hours of my last one?
It’s the law in Texas. If your last tan was at noon yesterday, we can not check you in till 24 hours have passed. You can, however, get a spray tan if you are pressed for time. In general, we usually recommend tanning every other day or 2 days apart.
Q. Which bed should a first-time user start with?
We always start out first-timers on a Level 1 bed to see how their skin responds. Based on your results after 2-3 sessions, and the Fitzpatrick Scale, we can provide a recommendation on how to continue so you can get the best results from your sessions.
Q. Why is lotion so important?
Let’s put it this way: would you brush your teeth without toothpaste? Tanning without a quality lotion won’t give you the results and the protection your skin needs. Our products are formulated to provide the right amount of moisture and tan enhancers to give your skin the color and glow you are trying to achieve, safely, and in a short amount of time. Without it, your tan isn’t as robust nor is it kind to your skin.
Q. Why can’t I just buy the lotion online or off the shelf at a department store?
Only licensed salons are authorized to carry tanning products! We can not guarantee the authenticity of any product sold online. There is no way of knowing if the bottle contains a formula that hasn’t been tampered with, that has been stored correctly, or hasn’t expired. All distributors are required to follow certain protocol, and the products on our shelf are constantly contained, monitored and tracked to ensure superior quality. Most tanning lotions sold in department stores are made to use outdoors. The products we carry are specifically formulated to work with tanning beds and have enhancers that work overnight to deepen your color. There is a science behind the ingredients and the way the products are supposed to work, and superior brands like Designer Skin and Australian Gold have the sole purpose of doing the research and giving you the product you need to get and maintain the tan you desire.
Q. What is the best way to prep before my tan?
Two words: Exfoliate and moisturize. Dead skin can flake off, taking the tan with it and leaving you with an uneven color. Exfoliate the skin at least 12-14 hours ahead of time using a loofah, scrub or a gentle exfoliator. Moisturizing your skin will keep it from drying out and flaking prematurely. Exfoliating and moisturizing for about 12 hours ahead of time can ensure a longer lasting tan.
Q. What do I need to wear?
While tanning, you can stay in a bikini set or underwear, or go nude if you don’t want any tan lines. We do recommend slightly loose clothing and undergarments for after that you don’t mind getting a little stained with the tanning lotion.
Q. What will happen to my tattoo?
Tattoos do fade with frequent tanning. New tattoos should be covered completely the first few sessions, otherwise, we carry products that are specially designed with tattoo coverage.
